AKVATERA LT, UAB is one of the most modern factories in Northern Europe, successfully operating since 2004. The company is part of the international group KIKA GROUP, UAB, which also owns KIKA pet stores in Lithuania and Estonia, as well as the champions’ home – the TAURO KENNEL dog breeding center.

The latest specialized pet food production technologies, consultations from European professionals, and the highest quality raw materials make it possible to develop formulas and produce top-quality products at an optimal price.

AKVATERA LT, UAB manufactures dry extruded super-premium cat and dog food, as well as treats that meet the modern feeding requirements of pets.

Wet food factory

In 2025, a modern pet wet food factory “Akvatera W” was opened in Žemaitkiemis village, Kaunas district, with an investment of over €20 million. This factory enables the production of 52 new wet products, with an annual capacity of up to 11,000 tons. This step has significantly increased export opportunities to more than 60 countries. Along with the factory, an innovative pouch packaging solution was introduced, meeting the needs of a rapidly growing market.

The new factory, covering an area of 7,200 sq. m, meets the A++ energy efficiency class and has two production lines. It is planned to employ around 100 people. The factory will help KIKA Group not only expand its product range but also strengthen its position in international markets, especially in Europe, Asia, and the USA.

The “Akvatera W” factory also stands out for its sustainability – a 500 kW solar power plant has been installed on the roof, and 90% of the required electricity is sourced from renewable energy. Advanced heat recovery systems are used in the factory to ensure maximum energy efficiency.

The new factory will not only increase competitiveness in the market but also allow the company to offer customers a new generation of products that meet the needs and expectations of modern consumers.

The Importance of Quality

From the very beginning, AKVATERA LT, UAB invested not only into modern technology but also into the qualification improvement of the staff. The team of professionals has been complemented by European experts having considerable experience in manufacturing of specialized pet food.

Pet food recipes are worked out following the most recent know-how based on requirements for pet feeding and global standards. Pet food is manufactured according to standards ISO 9001 of the quality management system. The company has also implemented the environmental management system in compliance with ISO 14001.

Besides, AKVATERA LT, UAB has implemented the food (feed) safety management system complying with standard ISO 22000.
This system is integrated in the company’s quality and environmental protection management system.

AKVATERA LT, UAB has been issued the State veterinary surveillance number, i.e. marking LT 35-103 that confirms compliance with animal health and welfare.
This marking testifies that the legislative requirements laid down in the relevant regulatory acts of the Republic of Lithuania and European Union are met in the manufacturing of pet food in this factory and good manufacturing practice is applied by this company. Compliance with all the said requirements ensures manufacturing of safe and high quality products and effective control thereof.

Raw materials

AKVATERA LT, UAB uses only certified quality raw materials for manufacturing pet food. Special attention is paid to raw materials used for manufacture; therefore, cereal raw materials are procured only from Lithuanian cultivators, while other raw materials are imported from abroad under strict control.

From the very beginning AKVATERA LT, UAB has been consistently working in the area of ensuring the best pet food quality. High quality production is the main goal of the company. Therefore, AKVATERA LT, UAB makes regular investments in upgrading its equipment and introduction of new technologies and methods.

The company has established the Quality monitoring, management and control system that ensures quality at every stage of the entire cycle of manufacturing: from procuring raw materials all the way up to the sales of the final product.

With a view to better satisfy the needs of pets AKVATERA LT, UAB targets its production at healthier pet food manufacturing. In the process of devising recipes of healthier food, the technologist of AKVATERA LT, UAB cooperates with consulting technologists from Poland, takes counsel with specialists from the laboratories of the National Food and Veterinary Risk Assessment Institute and the Food Institute affiliated with Kaunas University of Technology. The company applies advanced technologies that guarantee the required pet food quality. The feed of pilot batches is fed to dogs, that are bred and reared on the KIKA GROUP, UAB breeding-grounds. The company staff members cooperate with other skilled breeders whose voice is very important in the process of manufacturing.

Leading-edge Technologies

Upon employment of SAPARD aid allocations granted in 2004, a pet food manufacturing shop was set up that was equipped with the most advanced production line of extruded pet food with the output capacity of 2.3-2.7 t/h. In 2014, in the process of upgrading the factory’s production and enhancing labour efficiency, the newest and leading-edge Italian packaging equipment Fisker was installed with the output capacity of 600 pieces of packaging/h. The entire manufacturing process is automated, monitored and digitally analysed, which eliminates any divergence from standard or error.

In 2005, the State Food and Veterinary Service of the Republic of Lithuania issued an approval to AKVATERA LT, UAB that granted the right to export the feed bearing marking LT 35-103 to countries within the European Union and the Customs Union. The company also boasts a successful export performance of its production to Sweden, Poland, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Spain, Greece, Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Cyprus, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Israel, South Korea, Turkey, and the Ukraine.
